The story of the twelve tribes of Israel is usually thought to have begun with Abraham, the progenitor and first patriarch of the Hebrew people. But, in reality, their record on earth begins much earlier, with the coming of Sanat Kumara, the Ancient of Days. At that time, Sanat Kumara, the hierarch of Venus, came before the Cosmic Council and said, “I will volunteer to be the saviour of the earth. I will volunteer to keep the flame of the earth until some among mankind awaken to the knowledge of the Law.” Sanat Kumara was granted the opportunity to come to earth to keep the flame.
