His mother was one of the most devoted of the women disciples, and Mark remembered when, as a boy, Jesus celebrated the Last Supper in the Upper Room. He was raised an [[Essene]] and, being well-educated, was chosen Peter’s chief disciple and secretary and was taken to Antioch to assist [[Saint Paul|Paul]]. He became an exponent of the deeper mysteries of Christianity and founded the Church at Alexandria, where he was later martyred. |
