Message definition (John the Beloved)

John was the only disciple who did not forsake Jesus as he was dying on the cross. As Jesus saw John standing nearby with Mary, he said to her, “Woman, behold thy son!” and said to John, “Behold thy Mother!”<ref>John 19:27.</ref> Jesus thereby acknowledged John as his spiritual brother, as worthy to be the son of his own mother—and therefore, he elevated John to the level of Christ.

Juan fue el único discípulo que no abandonó a Jesús cuando éste moría en la cruz. Cuando Jesús vio a Juan al lado de María, le dijo a ella, «mujer, he ahí tu hijo»; y a Juan dijo, «he ahí tu madre»^[1]. Jesús reconoció así a Juan como su hermano espiritual, como digno de ser el hijo de su propia madre y, por tanto, elevó a Juan al nivel del Cristo.
