[Sanskrit literally “dissolution”] According to Hindu cosmology, the universe is continually evolving through periodic cycles of creation and dissolution. The periods of destruction, or involution, are called pralayas. During a pralaya, all matter in the universe is absorbed into the Universal Spirit.
