Summary
Portrait of Mani from Duncan Greenlees, The Gospel of the Prophet Mani (Adyar, India: Theosophical Publishing House, 1956).
Greenlees describes this portrait thus: “The speculative portrait of Mani here used is derived from a contemporary coin of Characene (near Maisān), whose ruler seems to have been a convert, combined with the Chinese portrait found in the cave frescoes at Tün-huang, probably dating about A.D. 800, combined with another source. No claim for its absolute accuracy can be put forward, though it may not differ greatly from the actual appearance of the prophet at about A.D. 255” (p. clxxvi).
