The Stone of Scone in the Coronation Chair at Westminster Abbey

The Bethel Stone (bethel meaning “the house of God”) is the stone upon which Jacob rested his head the night he dreamed of the heavenly ladder (Gen. 28:10–22). According to tradition, the Bethel Stone became the coronation stone upon which the kings of the House of David were crowned, and Jeremiah took the stone with him when he journeyed to Ireland. Some scholars believe it to be the Stone of Scone, which until 1996 rested under the coronation chair in Westminster Abbey.
