The Master Hilarion declared when embodied as Saint Paul, “I die daily.” Although he was referring to the mortification of the ego—the putting off of the human consciousness and the putting on of the divine consciousness[1]—this statement may also be applied to all mankind as they close their eyes at night for a period of sleep, when there is a loss of contact with the realities of the day’s activities and a separation of the soul from the memory patterns of the personal self. This breaking of the thread of consciousness, which is reestablished with each coming dawn, gives man the opportunity to die daily and to begin life anew.
