Translations:Twelve tribes of Israel/34/en
When the Israelites repented and obeyed God’s laws, the LORD empowered the judges to champion their cause, and once again they enjoyed peace. The pattern of disobedience then punishment, repentance then deliverance was repeated over and over again. The leadership of the judges ended when the people demanded of Samuel, the last judge of Israel: “We will have a king over us that we also may be like all the nations.”[1] They believed their tribal confederacy was not strong enough to ward off the growing threat of Philistine armies.
